Home wins for Bayern and Stuttgart

Bayern Munich collected their first win of the season on Sunday, while Stuttgart look strong. Few people would have expected Bayern Munich to have to wait until their third game of the season to secure their first three-point haul, but the reigning champions have been slow out of the blocks. However, they returned to winning ways in emphatic style this weekend, crushing Hertha Berlin 4-1 at Allianz Arena. Italy international Luca Toni opened the scoring on 12 minutes when he drilled home from the edge of the box, before Philipp Lahm doubled their lead nine minutes into the second half. Bastian Schweinsteiger then converted from the spot two minutes later, having been brought down himself by Steve von Bergen. The Hertha defender was enduring a dismal afternoon and conceded a second spot kick on 70 minutes when he sent Ze Roberto tumbling in the box. Miroslav Klose duly despatched from 12-yards, while Marko Pantelic claimed an 84th minute consolation for the visitors. Stuttgart are up to fifth in the table following a 2-0 victory over Hannover. The 2007 Bundesliga champions went ahead on 19 minutes when star striker Mario Gomez coolly slotted home from six-yards out. With five minutes to go before the break, Armin Veh's men then sealed the points from the penalty spot. Martin Lanig was felled by Christian Schulz and Pavel Pardo made no mistake as he fired an unstoppable effort into the top corner. Stuttgart have begun the new season in positive fashion while Hannover remain rooted to the foot of the table.
