Leverkusen keen to retain teenage talent

Bayer Leverkusen have knocked back an approach from Real Madrid for Marcel Risse. The Spanish champions enquired as to the teenage striker's availability, but have been told he is not for sale. His German employers are determined to retain the services of a prodigious talent they have nurtured through their academy system. "We do not want to let Marcel go," Leverkusen's sporting director Rudi Voller told Kicker. Risse, who starred for his country at the U19 European Championships this summer, also stated his desire to remain in Germany at present. "I am honoured to have received an offer and it makes me very proud," he said. "But I have a contract here until 2012 and I want to fulfil it and make a breakthrough into the Bundesliga here at Leverkusen."
