Defender moves to the Valley on loan
Charlton Athletic have clinched the loan signing of Portsmouth's young defender Martin Cranie.
Skysports.com confirmed on Sunday that the Addicks were poised to complete a deal for the England Under 21 international before the transfer window closed.
The move was finalised 20 minutes before the deadline, although there is confusion regarding the length of the deal.
Portsmouth say Cranie has moved to the Valley for the rest of the season, but Charlton state the loan is for the remainder of 2008.
Cranie joined Portsmouth from Southampton last summer and has made just three appearances for Harry Redknapp's side.
He spent a spell on loan at Queens Park Rangers last term, only for his stint at Loftus Road to be cut short by a broken leg.
The youngster is currently with the England Under 21 squad preparing for Friday's European Championship qualifier with Portugal.
