Milan ace breaks wrist

AC Milan midfield star Gennaro Gattuso has broken his wrist in a freak training ground incident. Gattuso was taking part in a friendly on Sunday at the Grasdica d'Isonzo training complex when he fell into the dug-outs and hit his wrist. He was immediately taken for scans and he was diagnosed to have suffered multiple fractures and surgery was needed. Gattuso is now out of Wednesday's 2010 World Cup qualifier with Georgia and joins an increasing injury list. Coach Marcello Lippi was already getting over the blow of losing defensive duo Fabio Grosso and Alessandro Gamberini. Fiorentina central defender Gamberini badly dislocated his shoulder within the opening minute of Italy's 2-1 win over Cyprus on Saturday. Gamberini is now expected to be sidelined for a number of weeks, also out is left-back Grosso - who fractured ribs during the Cyprus win. Lippi has so far decided not to call on any replacements, leaving him with a squad of just 18.
