Greece and Israel win as Luxembourg shock Swiss
Greece top Group Two in the race for places at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, while Luxembourg stunned Switzerland.
Theofanis Gekas helped himself to a brace as
Greece maintained their 100 per cent start with a 2-0 win in
Latvia.
Gekas netted his first after just 10 minutes before adding his second four minutes after half-time to settle the outcome.
Israel survived a scare before running out 2-1 winners over
Moldova in Group Two.
The minnows made a blistering start to the contest and forged ahead in the first minute through Igor Picusciac.
A quick-fire double on the stroke of half-time from Omer Golan and Klemi Saban gave Israel a lead they would not relinquish.
In one of the upsets of the evening,
Luxembourg, who were thrashed by Greece at the weekend, won 2-1 at
Switzerland.
As if failing to impress on home side in Euro 2008 was not bad enough Switzerland have now slipped to a new low.
Jeff Strasser put Luxembourg in front, although it appeared a shock was off the cards when Blaise Nkufo levelled matters.
However, the visitors were not about to miss out on a rare win and they claimed the shock three-point haul through Alphonse Leweck late on.
