Wigan boss Steve Bruce has ruled out letting Michael Brown leave the JJB Stadium.
Brown has been strongly linked with a return to former club Sheffield United as they seek a replacement for Michael Tonge.
But Bruce is keen to keep Brown as he has a shortage of midfield players available to him.
"We have got three central midfielders - Michael Brown is one of those so it would be ridiculous of me to even think of letting anyone go," Bruce told
Sky Sports News.
"If you look at our squad we are arguably the smallest squad in the Premier League."
