Real play out seven-goal cracker as Villarreal see off Depor

Real Madrid played out a thrilling match against Numancia to claim a 4-3 win while Villarreal edged a victory over Deportivo La Coruna. Newly-promoted Numancia took a shock lead at the Santiago Bernabeu with Juan Carlos Moreno opening the scoring after just six minutes. Real Madrid levelled through a deflected strike from Guti but a brilliant effort from Jose Barkero put the visitors back in front. Higuain restored parity on 25 minutes after a neat move from Bernd Schuster's side before Rafael van der Vaart hit a rasping drive to hand Real the advantage. Cisma Domingo put into his own net to make it 4-2 and while Numancia pulled one back via Moreno they could not find a dramatic equaliser. Villarreal, who face Manchester United in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, saw off Deportivo with Santi Cazorla scoring the decisive goal on 27 minutes. Espanyol built on their opening day win over Valladolid to claim a 1-0 triumph over Recreativo Huelva as Luis Garcia netted with just six minutes remaining. Almeria and Valencia were forced to settle for a point apiece as their encounter at Mediterraneo Stadium ended in a 2-2 draw. The home side went ahead on 21 minutes with Pablo Piatti on target, however Los Che hit back via Ruano Alexis. Gonzalo Arconada's Almeria restored their advantage just before the break via Alvaro Negredo, but David Villa netted in the 69th minute to ensure the match ended in a draw. Real Mallorca were denied three points in the final moments against Osasuna as Javier Portillo struck in the 85th minute to cancel out Aritz Aduriz's effort, while Jose Rey saw red for the home side. Real Betis handed a debut to summer signing Sergio Garcia against Getafe but neither team could find the breakthrough at Estadio Coliseum Alfonso Perez. Elsewhere, Malaga and Athletic Bilbao's fixture also ended goalless to leave both sides without a win in their opening two games of the new campaign.
