Thompson back for Hatters, but Cobblers wait on Afinkenwa

Stockport boss Jim Gannon will have Peter Thompson available for the home clash with Northampton, but the Cobblers are sweating on the fitness of Adebayor Akinfenwa. The Northern Ireland forward was replaced at half-time as a precautionary measure in Saturday's 3-0 win at Leyton Orient, but Gannon is confident he will be able to figure on Tuesday. Attacking midfielder Carl Baker - a £175,000 summer signing from Morecambe - remains sidelined after spraining an ankle in training last week. Jason Taylor and Matty McNeil are also still missing but Jonny Mullins could feature as County seek to record their first home win of the season. Their demolition of Orient has lifted spirits at Edgeley Park, but Gannon warned: "We also know there are certain areas we need to improve on."

Akinfenwa worry

Cobblers boss Stuart Gray will make a late decision on the inclusion of Akinfenwa after he missed the club's clash with rivals Peterborough on Saturday due to a hip injury. Chris Doig will also face a late fitness test, but is expected to return, after missing the derby clash with a hamstring injury. Liam Davis will have to get the all clear for the doctor before Gray considers him after the winger was withdrawn from the weekend's game at half-time with a virus. Defender Jason Crowe will sit out the match after receiving a one-game ban following his sending off at Sixfields on Saturday.
