Marcos Senna aims to show Manchester United what they missed out on when Villarreal take to the Old Trafford pitch.
Villarreal face the holders in their opening UEFA Champions League group game on Wednesday night, live on
Sky Sports 2.
Spain international midfielder Senna was a target for United two years ago, only for Villarreal to reject the approach.
Senna confirmed there was interest from United and is eager to make another impression on Sir Alex Ferguson.
Ferguson fan
"There was contact," said Senna. "Things were very advanced two seasons ago with United.
"United spoke to the club and to my agent, but I decided to stay with Villarreal, just as I did this summer when someone else was interested.
"I am very happy here and have never really wanted to go anywhere else.
"Now all I'm focusing on is being right on the night.
"Hopefully I will have a good game and afterwards Ferguson will still be a fan of mine. I'm certainly a fan of his."
United are strong favourites to win Group E, but Senna believes that Villarreal can cause an upset in the first-round phase.
He added: "We can win the group.
"Manchester United have a lot of strengths, but we are better now as well, so we definitely feel we can finish first."
