Derby move to punish AWOL right-back
Derby County have fined Tyrone Mears six weeks' wages following his controversial move to Ligue 1 side Marseille.
Mears provoked outrage in August when he travelled to France to undergo a trial at Marseille without the permission of Derby.
Rams boss Paul Jewell said that right-back Mears would never play for the Championship club again while he was in charge at Pride Park.
Mears has since secured a season-long loan to the Stade Velodrome, however Derby have refused to let the matter lie and have moved to punish the player.
It is reported in Thursday's press that the club have issued a legal letter fining him six weeks' wages, with Derby demanding £75,000.
PFA deputy chief executive Mick McGuire said in the
Daily Mail: "Derby are entitled to fine him that amount because he is still on a Premier League contract. We don't know if he will appeal."
