Lucas Neill Scholarship winner heads for England

Australian starlet Joey Gibbs has been offered trials by both West Ham and Blackburn. The 16-year-old plays for Manly United in his homeland, but he has just won the Lucas Neil Scholarship - which has opened for door for him to travel to England. As part of the scholarship he will now travel to England for trials with Neill's current club West Ham and his former club Blackburn. He will also spend time with Ipswich. Manly coach Phil Moss has backed Gibbs to be a big success after winning the coveted Neil Scholarship. "He's got superior technical ability which allowed him to stand out, but off the field you can see how players flock to him, he's a real leader," Moss said. "I've sat down and said to Joey that he's not going over there to win a contract, he's going over there for the experience. If he wins a contract that's a bonus, but if he doesn't, he comes back wiser and more experienced."
