Combe over Scotland hopes

Kilmarnock's Alan Combe has all-but given up on receiving international recognition with Scotland.

Keeper keen to keep Killie happy

Veteran Kilmarnock goalkeeper Alan Combe has admitted he has all-but given up on receiving international recognition with Scotland. Combe produced another fine performance against Celtic on Sunday, and could do little to prevent the SPL champions claiming a 3-1 victory at Rugby Park. The former Bradford, St Mirren and Dundee United player has been named in Scotland squads in the past, but has not yet been capped by his country. And the Killie No.1 does not expect his fortunes to change with Craig Gordon, Andy Marshall and Allan McGregor currently in national team boss George Burley's plans.

Happy

The 34-year-old said: "I'm not shouting for anything. The guys that are playing for Scotland are doing a very good job. "All I can do is do my best for Killie and if that's good enough for the gaffer and the fans here then I'm happy." Scotland made a dismal start to their World Cup qualification campaign with a 1-0 defeat away to Macedonia, before bouncing back to triumph 2-1 in Iceland. Burley's troops continue their bid to reach South Africa in 2010 with a Group 9 meeting against Norway at Hampden Park on 11th October.
