Heavy Macc defeat proves too much for board

Lee Sinnott has been relieved of his duties at Port Vale following the club's poor start to the season. Upon his appointment last season Sinnott was unable to prevent Port Vale's slide into League Two and it has got no better this term. A 4-1 home defeat to Macclesfield on Saturday saw supporters call for their manger's head and now Sinnott has paid the price. "It is with regret that the club announce that manager Lee Sinnott has been relieved of his duties at Vale Park with immediate effect," read an official club statement. "There will be a further statement in due course."

Call from above

While accepting he had been disappointed with how things had panned out in his 11-month reign at Vale Park, it was a defiant Sinnott that spoke out earlier on Monday. "I believe I am a bloody good manager," he told the Sentinel. "It has been a tough 11 months, I am not denying that. I have learned a hell of a lot. "I have fought long and hard to get a position like this. People above me will decide whether I stay, but I have no intention of walking away."
