Rotherham midfielder keen to impress

Peter Holmes hopes to challenge for a place in the Rotherham side once he returns from a loan spell with York. The midfielder has slipped down the pecking order at the Don Valley Stadium and admits the opportunity to get some regular football was too good to resist. Holmes believes that if he impresses at York then Mark Robins may well bring him back into the Millers' first team fold. He told skysports.com: "It's a chance to get some games under my belt, as I haven't been involved in the starting XI this season at Rotherham, so I see this spell at York as a way of getting my fitness levels up whilst helping out the club. "It's been very frustrating as I played quite a lot of games last year, but the gaffer brought a few players in over the summer and he's tried a new formation. "To be fair to the lads they've been playing really well and I have had to bide my time and hopefully my patience will pay off by getting back into the side."

Standard

Holmes, who has played just a few minutes of football this season with Rotherham, believes the standard of football in the Blue Square Premier is as high as it has ever been. He explained: "It is a slight worry dropping in to the Conference, but I had a word with the gaffer and he told me it would be better to go out on loan and get some games as there's no point sitting around playing in the reserves. "It was a quick thing as York called me on Sunday and asked me to come down for a month and I thought it would be good to help them out. "The Conference standard of football is quite good at the moment and there's not too much difference between that and League Two, so I saw it as a great opportunity to play some football."
