Jones pleased with points

Dave Jones was pleased with Cardiff's 2-1 win over Coventry, but Steve Kean felt a Freddy Eastwood effort should have stood.

Controversy after Eastwood 'goal' disallowed

Cardiff boss Dave Jones was relieved after his side got back to winning ways with a 2-1 victory over Coventry at Ninian Park. The victory means the Bluebirds, who had lost their unbeaten league record to Birmingham last time, moved to seventh in the table, just outside the play-off zone. Jay Bothroyd gave the home side the lead on 31 minutes but Freddy Eastwood then had an equaliser disallowed after referee Roger East consulted his assistant, who had flagged for a Coventry handball earlier in the move. The Sky Blues were made to pay as Ross McCormack doubled Cardiff's advantage from the penalty spot with five minutes to go after he had been fouled by Isaac Osbourne in the box. Scott Dann headed home on 89 minutes to score a late consolation for the visitors but they could not salvage a point. Jones said: "It shouldn't have gone to the wire and we made it difficult for ourselves in the last five minutes. "Jay Bothroyd deserved his goal but he should have had a couple more, although confidence-wise it should do him good. "We played a difficult side and it was very important to get maximum points today, although we played better on Saturday and lost. "It was a big decision by the referee but it was the right one," he added, referring to the Eastwood 'goal'.
Kean's views
But Coventry's assistant manager Steve Kean felt the officials were wrong to disallow Eastwood's effort. Kean said: "We think that if the assistant believed it was a deliberate handball by our player then he shouldn't have lowered his flag. "We spoke to the referee after the game and he told us why he had disallowed our goal. "Apparently, he thought the assistant was flagging for offside and it was only when he spoke to him as the players were going back to the centre circle, that he realised it was for handball."
