On-loan Celtic starlet targeting Parkhead place next season

Scott Cuthbert is hoping to stake a claim for a place in Celtic's starting XI when his St Mirren loan deal expires. The 21-year-old defender is currently at Love Street on a season-long loan and has impressed during his short stay at the club. Cuthbert helped St Mirren to a rare home win over Celtic's arch-rivals Rangers on Sunday and he is hoping manager Gordon Strachan is keeping tabs on his progress. The former Livingston loanee has seen loan moves work for other Celtic players in the past and he believes the experience garnered will boost his chances of making the grade at Parkhead.

No harm

"Obviously I want to go back to Celtic and play," Cuthbert told the Daily Record. "I'm sure I didn't do myself any harm by helping beat Rangers. "I can only hope the gaffer sees the game. I know Willie McStay has been to a few of them to watch me. "I need to prove myself here and we'll then see what happens. A loan deal has worked out for quite a few players in the past. "It's a move I've enjoyed so far. I've only been here six weeks but the lads have been great and helped me settle. I'm enjoying myself."
