MK Dons begin the defence of their trophy against Bournemouth

The second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy gets underway on Tuesday with a number of intriguing ties. With a day out at Wembley up for grabs, sides in League One and Two will view the competition as their best chance of claiming some silverware this season. With that in mind, the tournament is guaranteed to serve up the odd upset as those on the lower rungs of the football ladder go in pursuit of glory. The trophy is currently in the hands of MK Dons, who tasted success under the guidance of Paul Ince last term. The holders begin the defence of their crown, after being handed a bye in the first round, at home to League Two strugglers Bournemouth. The Dons defeated Grimsby in the final back in March, although the Mariners have been on the slide since then. With Mike Newell now installed as the new boss at Blundell Park they will be looking for a much-needed victory away at Scunthorpe. Gigg Lane is set to host a feisty North West derby as Stockport make the short trip to Bury, while League Two leaders Wycombe face a tricky contest against fellow high-fliers Shrewsbury. Luton will look to put their league worries behind them when they welcome Brentford to Kenilworth Road, while Hereford will be hoping to gain momentum when they entertain Swindon. Cheltenham have endured a difficult start to the new League One campaign and could be in for further heartache when they tackle Walsall. Brighton have faltered of late and face a cup clash against third tier rivals Leyton Orient, while Colchester look to put back-to-back defeats behind them at Gillingham. Morecambe and Chester meet in an all League Two encounter, while Rochdale journey north to face Carlisle. Another North East outfit, Darlington, play host to Huddersfield and Darren Ferguson's Peterborough welcome Dagenham & Redbridge to London Road.
