Businessman remains confident
The consortium headed by Jonathan Cleland remains hopeful of sealing a deal for Newcastle United.
The South African businessman, based in Scotland, has been looking to seal a deal for The Magpies since the club were put up for sale by owner Mike Ashley.
Cleland declared his interest early on, only for a host of South African businessmen to dismiss they had any involvement, whilst Keith Harris of investment bank Seymour Pierce - who are brokering the sale - questioned the seriousness of the bid.
However, Cleland insists that his bid for the North East club is genuine and he remains confident of brokering a deal.
"We're hopeful of still doing a deal for Newcastle United very soon," Cleland told
the Guardian.
Cleland refused to disclose who else was forming the consortium.
