Klose pounces late for defending champions

Bayern Munich snatched a late win at Karlsruhe as Hoffenheim continued their impressive start to the season with a thumping away win. Werder Bremen and Borussia Dortmund shared six goals in a thriller, while there were wins for Cologne, Bayer Leverkusen, Wolfsburg and Hertha Berlin. Miroslav Klose injected fresh impetus into Bayern's season with an 86th minute winner at Karlsruhe. The striker finished clinically from Massimo Oddo's cross to earn under-fire coach Jurgen Klinsmann some breathing space. Stuttgart missed out on the chance to draw level with Hamburg at the top after losing 2-1 at Hertha Berlin. Maximilian Nicu provided Hertha with a 30th minute lead when he finished crisply after being set up by Raffael. Stuttgart were level six minutes into the second half, though, as Cacau pounced from close range after Mario Gomez had helped on a corner. Hertha caught Stuttgart with a sucker punch three minutes from the end as Raffael was the provider once more for Gojko Kacar to fire home a winner. Hoffenheim are level on points with leaders Hamburg after a 5-2 victory at Hannover in an enthralling encounter. Vedad Ibisevic sent Hoffenheim into the break a goal to the good as he turned home Andreas Beck's cross on 36 minutes. But Hannover replied three minutes after the interval when Christian Schulz converted a corner from Szabolcs Huszti. Hannover then took the lead on 63 minutes through Jiri Stajner, only for Hoffenheim to level courtesy of Chinedu Obasi's close-range goal on 70 minutes. Substitute Fejae Salihovic finished off a quick break to put Hoffenheim back in front two minutes later and the visitors scored again through Demba Ba (80) and Ibisevic (83), with Hannover also having Arnold Bruggink sent off. Bayer Leverkusen are hot on the heels of the leaders after a 2-0 success at the Bundesliga's bottom club Eintracht Frankfurt. Leverkusen enjoyed a dream start when Patrick Helmes fired home from the penalty spot on six minutes after Marco Russ had brought down Stefan Kiessling. The visitors' advantage was doubled on 61 minutes when Arturo Vidal rose well to head home into the top corner. Werder Bremen were held 3-3 by Borussia Dortmund after a crazy climax to their pulsating tussle. Dortmund made the breakthrough just before the hour mark when Alexander Frei converted from the spot after Sebastian Kehl drew a foul from Frank Baumann. Bremen equalised on 67 minutes when Baumann atoned for conceding a penalty by heading home from Sebastian Boenisch's cross. But parity was short-lived as Dortmund grabbed the lead again five minutes later when substitute Mats Hummels rounded off a rapid counter-attack. Dortmund could not hold on, however, as Claudio Pizarro pounced for an equaliser two minutes from time. On-loan striker Pizarro then put Bremen ahead in the first minute of injury-time, only for Dortmund to snatch a point through Mohamed Zidan just a minute later. Arminia Bielefeld continue to struggle at the bottom end of the table after a 4-1 thrashing at Wolfsburg. Zvjezdan Misimovic scored twice in the first half for Wolfsburg, turning home Edin Dzeko's cross on five minutes and then finishing from Grafite's pass on 34 minutes. Misimovic turned provider for Wolfsburg's third goal on 54 minutes when his cross was headed home by Alexander Madlung. Arminia replied on 60 minutes through Alexander Laas, only for Grafite to grab a fourth goal for Wolfsburg four minutes later. Cologne are in the mix at the top end of the table after a 1-0 home win over 10-man Energie Cottbus. Cottbus gave themselves a mountain to climb after going down to 10 men after 29 minutes when Igor Mitreski was dismissed for a foul on Fabrice Ehret. Cologne were quick to take advantage by forging in front on 39 minutes when Milivoje Novakovic headed home Roda Antar's cross.
