Manager decides to resign after Lyon loss

Steaua Bucharest coach Marius Lacatus has resigned from his position 24 hours after his side's Champions League defeat to Lyon. The Romanian side threw away the lead twice as Lyon battled back from 2-0 down and 3-2 down to record a staggering 5-3 success on Tuesday night. The defeat leaves Steaua bottom of Group F with one point from three games and they are struggling domestically sitting in third spot, four points behind rivals Dinamo Bucharest. As a result of their poor form Lacatus feels he has no choice but to quit. "I prefer to sacrifice myself and leave, so that Steaua won't suffer after a string of poor results," said Lacatus. "When a team loses one match after another nobody other than the coach is responsible. "It's clear that I lost the support of everybody, officials, supporters and media, so there is no room for me to go on any more."
