Former Arsenal and Bolton boss shown the door
Bruce Rioch has been axed as manager of Aalborg with immediate effect.
Aalborg claimed the Danish title last season, but the former Arsenal and Bolton boss has been unable to continue that form.
The club are struggling badly in domestic competition this term and are second from bottom with just two wins from 10 games.
They have just one point to show from their three matches in Europe's leading club competition having drawn with Celtic and then losing to Manchester United and Villarreal in Group E.
Rioch had already been told that his contract would not be renewed when it expired at the end of the year.
Not satisfactory
But a 2-1 home defeat to FC Nordsjaelland last weekend proved the final straw for AaB and their director of sport, Lynge Jakobsen, who sanctioned Rioch's immediate departure.
"Qualification for the Champions League was a success, but we have to say that our results in SAS Ligaen have not been satisfactory," Jakobsen told the club's
official website.
"We have decided to stop now because we are no longer in agreement with Bruce Rioch about what is the best way to get satisfactory results in the coming weeks."
Assistant coach Allan Kuhn will take charge of the team for the rest of the year.
