Bolton boss happy to take the stick for players
Gary Megson says criticism from Bolton Wanderers supporters is 'water off a duck's back' after admitting he has been jeered since he took the job.
The former West Brom boss has just celebrated 12 months in the Reebok hot seat and kept the club in the Premier League last season.
However, a disappointing start to the new campaign has seen Megson come in for further criticism, with fans booing the team in Sunday's 2-0 defeat at Tottenham.
Bolton captain Kevin Nolan says the players should be receiving some of the flack, but Megson admits he would prefer to be the only one being abused.
Honest team
"Somebody showed me something this morning that Kevin Nolan had said in the press to lay off myself and that the players are every bit as much to blame," said Megson on
Sky Sports News.
"It wasn't that bad, but I would argue against Kevin.
"I don't particularly want to get all that abuse, but I certainly don't want the players getting it, so if anybody is getting that kind of stick it's better that I get it.
"At Bolton I've been used to it from day one since I've been here. You don't want that, but the best way of not having it is playing well and getting results.
"We've not got the results that some of our football has deserved. At times we haven't played particularly well, but we've never once been found guilty of not putting in the effort or not being an honest football team - we've got that in spades.
"If people pay the money, they can make their own comments. I would much prefer they were directed at myself, whether they are deserved or not, but I've been used to that since day one.
"It doesn't bother me, it's water off a duck's back. It's not as if I haven't heard it before at this place."
