Stalemate ensues in North West derby

Neither Stockport or Tranmere could find the crucial breakthrough as a highly competitive game ended goalless. County went close in the first half as Johnny Mullins' looping header was saved by Tranmere goalkeeper Danny Coyne before Gary Dicker headed over an Anthony Pilkington corner. Rovers responded with Steve Jennings bringing a fine save from Fraser Forster, but defences remained firmly on top. Just before the hour mark, Stockport's Northern Ireland international forward Peter Thompson hit a shot against the crossbar.
