Ninian Park is braced for a top-of-the-table encounter as Wolves travel to Cardiff. The Bluebirds currently sit third, well-placed to launch an automatic promotion bid after suffering just one defeat in 14 games. Wolves, though, lead the way in the Championship and will be looking to consolidate their place at the summit.

Cardiff team news

Peter Whittingham is pushing for a recall to Cardiff's starting XI after his goalscoring exploits in midweek against Blackpool. The midfielder has failed to start the last two games but came off the bench against the Seasiders on Tuesday night to net the crucial 83rd-minute opener. Defender Miguel Comminges or midfielder Paul Parry are likely to be the player to make way if boss Dave Jones decides to switch things around against his former club. Captain Darren Purse, midfielders Stephen McPhail and Joe Ledley and striker Jay Bothroyd shook off knocks in time to start on Tuesday and all are expected to feature as the Bluebirds look to pick up three crucial points against their promotion rivals. However, Mark Kennedy is likely to miss out again and fellow midfielders Riccardo Scimeca (groin) and Tony Capaldi (knee) also face further time on the sidelines.
Wolves team news
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy faces a dilemma over what to do with Richard Stearman ahead of the trip to South Wales. The defender missed last Saturday's win over Watford due to suspension and while he was destined to start the midweek win over Swansea, he turned up late at Molineux due to snow and traffic and was dropped from the matchday 16 altogether. Stearman is now likely to battle it out with loan signing Michael Mancienne to be involved at Ninian Park. Goalkeeper Carl Ikeme looks okay to start again after a slight back problem but defender Jody Craddock (broken metatarsal) is still building up match fitness. Winger Matt Jarvis (hamstring) and defender George Elokobi (anterior cruciate ligament) remain sidelined for the long-term. Manager Mick McCarthy said: "Cardiff will be a tough game because they're a good, solid side."
