Lebanese club Al Ansar have rejected reports that Derby midfielder Robbie Savage is about to sign.

Former Wales international on fact-finding mission to Beirut

Lebanese league side Al Ansar have rejected suggestions that Derby County midfielder Robbie Savage is about to sign for them. Savage, who has just completed a loan stint at Brighton, is to visit the former Lebanese champions. But according to manager Bilal Farraj, the former Wales international, 34, is not heading to Beirut as a player. He said: "Savage is only coming as a regular visitor. We invited him to come to Beirut and to visit the team just like we previously did with other football stars.

Invited

"We invited him through our head coach Roy Thomas and they will be arriving together in Beirut tonight. This visit is one of the activities that we do at the club." Farraj added: "We asked him to come and visit the team and check the level of Lebanese football. We will also discuss if there will be any co-operation between us in the future. "It's only a social activity that we do and it is one of our programmes." Savage last played for Derby in August and appears to have no future at Pride Park.
