First round action gets under way

The first round of the FA Cup returns with Havant & Waterlooville in action seeking to replicate last season's gripping drama. The Blue Square South club fought to round four of the competition and gave Premier League giants Liverpool a fright as they battled in a 5-2 loss at Anfield. This time around, Shaun Gale's Havant & Waterlooville begin their quest with a clash against League Two side Brentford on Sunday. Huddersfield, of League One, staged a marvellous march to the fifth round before they were disposed of by Chelsea, and the Terriers commence their trail at home to Port Vale. Chesterfield are in action on Saturday lunchtime as they tackle Mansfield, who reached the fourth round of the FA Cup last campaign. Hereford United, who stumbled at round four last term, take on League Two club Dagenham & Redbridge at Edgar Street. League One outfit Swindon Town do battle with Blue Square Premier side Histon at Bridge Road, with the hosts seeking an upset. Harlow, who ply their trade in England's sixth tier, go head-to-head with Macclesfield, who failed to advance past round one last season. Mark Cooper's Kettering host Lincoln City, while UniBond League Division One North team Curzon Ashton also face League Two opposition in the shape of Exeter City. Non-League outfit Ebbsfleet United make the lengthy North Westerly trip to face Crewe Alexandra, while League Two leaders Darlington are in action against Droylsden. Colchester United and Leyton Orient meet in an all League One encounter, with the former seeking to at least equal last term's feat of reaching the third round. Eastbourne Borough lock horns with Blue Square Premier counterparts Barrow, and Eastwood Town meet Brackley at Coronation Park.
