Deportivo La Coruna plan to offer Julian de Guzman a new contract after the midfielder was linked with a move to the Premier League.
Reports in Spain have claimed that Tottenham Hotspur scouts have been watching the Canada international in recent weeks.
De Guzman is out of contract at the end of the season and will be free to talk with any interested clubs in the New Year.
However, Depor are eager to hang on to the 27-year-old and are looking to arrange a meeting to discuss a contract extension.
"We do not have any formal news," a club spokesman told
skysports.com. "Our objective is to have a meeting with the player in the next few weeks and to offer him a new deal."
Only last week, De Guzman revealed his intention to agree a new contract, although the former Hannover midfielder is keen for a swift resolution.
Awkward
He was quoted in
AS as saying: "I'm meeting with my agent in two or three weeks to talk about my future, whether at Depor or at another team.
"For me, it would be best to renew as soon as possible. If this whole process reached January, I would go through a rather awkward situation because there would be six months when I could sign for another club, but would continue playing for Deportivo."
De Guzman also suggested that a more lucrative offer from another club would not necessarily persuade him to leave Depor.
He added: "I know the (financial) aspect is important in my new contract, but I believe that to give the best of myself as a footballer, I have to defend the club that I carry in my heart and it is Depor at the moment.
"I want to continue with this team because I've enjoyed my best experience in football here and, besides, I love Spain and La Coruna in particular."
