Roeder denies Bruce interest

Norwich manager not looking to sign Ipswich defender

Norwich City boss Glenn Roeder has dismissed as 'pure and utter speculation' reports that he wants to sign Alex Bruce from Ipswich Town. Bruce is out of contract at the end of the season and rumours suggest the defender will not be offered an extension at Ipswich. Local rivals Norwich have been linked with a bid, along with fellow Championship sides Burnley and Preston, and clubs in Italy. However, Roeder has brushed off the speculation and believes it is merely a case of the player's agent trying to drum up some early interest.

Tough boy

"When somebody looks like they're going to leave their club, what with agents these days, they have to create speculation to see if there is anyone out there that suddenly comes forward because of the speculation in the papers," said Roeder in the Pink'un. "You need to use other football clubs to create speculation and obviously someone has done that with Alex as far as I'm concerned. "We've seen Alex play; we've seen lots of players play. "Like his dad, he's a tough boy, but that is just pure and utter speculation and I would think they've probably chosen us because of the links his father had."
