Van Nistelrooy injury opens up transfer market
Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster admits the club could bring in a new striker following news of Ruud van Nistelrooy's knee injury.
The 32-year-old Dutchman will not play again this season having undergone surgery in America.
Van Nistelrooy flew to the US this week to go under the same surgeon's knife that operated on him in 2000, when he was then at PSV Eindhoven.
Schuster concedes that he could make moves in the transfer market in the New Year, although it is problems at the other end of the field that concern him most.
"If there is any possibility we will certainly make the most of it," Schuster said when asked whether Van Nistelrooy would be replaced.
"Ruud's loss will make us more attentive to the market. Someone important could come in who helps us.
"It's a big blow for us. But our big problem is not so much scoring goals as avoiding conceding a lot.
"We all want him back but we have to move on."
