Aussies play down speculation

Sydney FC have quelled rumours they are set to sign Sunderland's Dwight Yorke in January. Recent reports suggest the A-League club have been monitoring Yorke's status at the Stadium Of Light and are keen to bring the 37-year-old down under for a second stint with the club. The Trinidad & Tobago star has only managed four appearances for Sunderland this term, and boss Roy Keane is thought to be open to offers for the player. However, Sydney chairman Andrew Kemeny suggested the club will not be pursuing Yorke. "I think Dwight should probably be looking at coaching nowadays or something else at the age of 37," Kemeny told the Sydney Morning Herald. "I wasn't in Sydney on Friday but I don't think there would have been a meeting without my knowledge. "There's nothing personal against Dwight. I think he's a lovely bloke. But we need to be looking at continuing our policy of developing our own youth and I suggest that should also apply to other clubs as well."
