Everton striker gets surprise call-up by Stuart Pearce

Everton striker James Vaughan discovered he had been included in the England Under-21 squad at the half-time interval of the clash with Middlesbrough. The striker will be a part of the squad to face the Czech Republic in a friendly at Bramhall Lane and the news came as a pleasant surprise for the 20-year-old. The game will take place on Tuesday night and Vaughan is hopeful he can just learn from the experience that representing your country brings. He told Everton's official website: "It's good and I'm glad that I'm in the squad. You never know what could happen on the night, I might get a game and hopefully I can do well. "Someone passed the message on that I had to go after the game with the Under-21s so obviously I was happy to hear that. "I know a few of the lads, I've played with a couple of them growing up, for the younger England teams." Vaughan is no stranger to Stuart Pearce's squad. He was a member of England's European Championship squad in 2007 that reached the semi-finals. The Everton man made just the one appearance, coming off the bench in the 2-2 draw with Italy in the group stages, and Vaughan has happy memories of the tournament. He added: "I went to the Euros a couple of years back and that was a great experience so hopefully I'll get the same experience again. "So far I've been fit, and hopefully I can just stay fit and get a few games. With the England thing, if I'm playing well for Everton then hopefully I can start pushing on with them."
