Shakers stop the goalscoring rot

Andy Bishop and Glynn Hurst grabbed two goals apiece to get Bury back to winning ways with a 4-0 win over Gillingham. The strike pair were recalled after a run of one goal in five by the Shakers and they both scored in either half to halt a run of five straight home defeats. Bury made a lively start and took a ninth-minute lead as Bishop pounced to stab home a teasing left-wing cross by Mike Jones. Gills' goalkeeper Simon Royce then tipped over a Brian Barry-Murphy free-kick, but was caught flat-footed from the resulting corner as Hurst headed home Barry-Murphy's inswinger from just a yard out. Elliott Bennett and Hurst combined for Bishop to score with a six-yard tap-in on the hour before Bishop returned the favour for Hurst to head home moments later. Gillingham missed out on a consolation when Adam Miller saw his 73rd-minute spot-kick saved by Brown, who was booked for fouling substitute Simeon Jackson in the box.
