Keeper adds to Mick McCarthy's options

Championship leaders Wolves have signed Shane Higgs on a one-month loan deal from Cheltenham. The keeper has been brought in to provide competition for places with Wayne Hennessey and Carl Ikeme. The latter suffered a bruised hip and gashed shin during Tuesday's 3-1 win at Sheffield United and may be rested from weekend action against Birmingham. Former England Under 21 international Matt Murray was another competent keeper on the club's books, but he ruptured tendons in his knee while out on loan at Hereford and is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines. Experienced shot-stopper Higgs will therefore provide much-needed cover in a crucial area of the field. The 31-year-old has been a consistent performer for Cheltenham over the last two seasons, helping the Robins to maintain their League One status. He has, however, been made available by boss Martin Allen after falling out of favour at Whaddon Road this term.
