Olympiakos notch their first victory with a 5-1 win over Benfica as Galatasaray slump to Metalist.

Leaders defeated in Istanbul

A late goal from Edmar was enough to seal all three points for Metalist Kharkiv against Group B rivals Galatasaray Metalist Kharkiv fended off a reluctant attack throughout most of the match in Istanbul to move within two points of Galatasaray. Despite struggling to cause any real threat to keeper De Sanctis, Edmar, with just his second shot on goal, hit a rocket from the edge of the penalty area with just minutes remaining. Arda Turan appeared the main threat for the home side but failed to convert on at least three occasions against a solid Metalist defence.

Thriller

Elsewhere, Olympiakos made easy work of Benfica in a 5-1 thriller in Athens. The Greek league leaders completely outplayed their Portuguese opponents, opening the scoring after just one minute of play through Luciano Galletti who drove a right-footed shot low past Quim. Christos Patsatzoglou made it two within 20-miutes with an emphatic volley inside the penalty area, before Luis Santo netted minutes later with a rocket shot just yards from goal. David Luiz appeared to bring the visitors back into the game after picking up on a timely cross by Reyes with another stylish volley. Any hopes of a comeback, though, were dashed as Fernando Belluschi restored the Greek side's three-goal lead just before the stroke of half-time. A second-half goal from Santos was enough to wrap up an emphatic win for the home side.
