Bulgaria have sacked national coach Plamen Markov, the Bulgarian Football Union have confirmed. Markov's future as Bulgaria boss has been the subject of speculation for some time with reports of discontent among some of his top players in the squad. Bulgaria have yet to record a win in World Cup qualifying group 8 with three draws in their opening three games and they sit in third place behind Republic of Ireland and Italy. Bulgaria lost 6-1 to Serbia in a friendly last month and that appears to have been the last straw for the BFU. "It was a tough decision but all 13 (executive committee) members voted for Markov's departure," said BFU president Borislav Mihaylov. "It was preceded by a serious discussion as we wanted to understand why the national team doesn't perform well on the pitch," he said. The Football Union will now be drawing up a shortlist of candidates to replace Markov as they look to get their World Cup qualifying campaign back on track.
