Peter Crouch wants Portsmouth to retain their key players despite the club being up for sale.

Striker enjoying Defoe partnership

Peter Crouch believes it is vital for Portsmouth to retain their key players after it was confirmed that the club is up for sale. Pompey owner Alexandre Gaydamak admitted on Sunday that he could no longer devote the time required to the Fratton Park outfit and was looking for a new investor to take the helm. That has led to immediate speculation that a number of star names could be set to move on in January. Manager Tony Adams insists he is under no pressure to sell and has been assured by Gaydamak that he will have the final say during the upcoming transfer window. And, having only joined the FA Cup holders under former boss Harry Redknapp in the summer, Crouch is keen for the squad to stay together.

Success

The former Liverpool striker told reporters: "I am very happy here at the minute. "I enjoy working with Tony Adams but you never know what the future holds. "It is very important we keep our best players and the players who are important to our success." Crouch, who scored the equaliser in Sunday's 1-1 draw at West Brom, has formed a promising partnership with Jermain Defoe on the South Coast and is keen for that to continue.
Love scoring
He added: "I enjoy playing with Jermain and vice-versa. I was very pleased to score and felt we got a deserved point. "Jermain has tried to set me up a couple of times here and I have been involved in a few of his goals this season. "There is no competition between us about being top scorer but we both love scoring goals and hopefully we can continue doing that. "Myself and Jermain have also both got aspirations of playing for England and if we continue to perform well at club level then hopefully we will get a chance."
