Poortvliet will be aided by fellow Dutchman

Championship outfit Southampton have appointed Dean Gorre as Jan Poortvliet's new assistant. The former Feyenoord and Ajax midfielder was already part of Saints' coaching set-up on a non-contract basis but has now been announced as his fellow Dutchman's right-hand man. Gorre has prior experience of life in English football following spells at Huddersfield, Barnsley and Brighton between 1999 and 2004 and will be hoping this knowledge stands him in good stead as he embarks on a new challenge. With the club currently languishing towards the foot of the table, Poortvliet is happy to have brought another helping hand on board at a crucial stage of the season. "I am delighted that Dean has agreed to support me at Southampton," he told the club's official website. "He shares my passion for good, passing football in the Johan Cruyff tradition and also has a great deal of experience of English football as a player. "He will undoubtedly strengthen our coaching team."
