AC Milan midfielder Gennaro Gattuso has vowed to battle back from injury after tearing cruciate ligaments in his right knee. The Italy international is due to see a specialist in Belgium after it emerged he had been playing with the serious problem. It is expected that Gattuso could be set to be sidelined for around six months, ruling him out of crucial 2010 World Cup qualifiers for Italy and Milan's pursuit of the Serie A title. However, Gattuso, 30, is determined to overcome the setback and return to his all-action best.

Eager

"I believe I can also win this battle and to sail through the recovery period," he told Telelombardia before flying out to Belgium. "There's a lot worse in life, there's no need to despair. I'll never lose my enthusiasm, regardless of what they tell me in Belgium. "The Milan doctors keep asking me how I managed to play on with a ruptured cruciate ligament. "It doesn't hurt that much, I don't really believe I've torn anything, even if the scans show otherwise."
