Barnsley boss Davey impressed by Wolves
Wolves boss Mick McCarthy paid tribute to Kevin Foley after his late goal helped secure a 2-0 victory over Barnsley, while Simon Davey was impressed by the home side.
Foley struck four minutes from time after helping create the opener in the first half when his right-wing cross was turned into his own net by Bobby Hassell.
McCarthy admitted the Tykes caused his side some anxious moments before Foley ensured they remain in charge at the Championship summit.
"I said to the players when we saw those really wonderful performances a few weeks ago that it wouldn't be like that every week," he said.
"We could have put the game to bed earlier than we did but they had some good chances and caused us problems.
"You just have to win, whether it's good, bad or indifferent, and we have had some breaks today.
Outstanding
"Kevin Foley was outstanding. It was a great performance by him. The newspapers will be giving him nine out of 10 at least and he's very consistent.
"He can't do any more than he does to try to get into the Republic of Ireland team. Unfortunately, when Mr Trappatoni came to watch him last Saturday at QPR, he had one of his worst games."
Barnsley had decent passages of play without greatly troubling the Wolves defence and Tykes boss Simon Davey had few complaints about the defeat.
"We passed it well at times and were always in the game until their second goal," said Barnsley boss Simon Davey.
"All credit to Wolves. They are flying at the moment. The teams at the top are the ones who come alive in the final third and are more clinical. It's not just the finishing, it's the quality of the balls in as well.
"Wolves are top of the division and consistently winning games. That puts them in good stead and it looks like they could go straight up, although Birmingham and Reading are pushing as well."
