Milan midfielder set to be sidelined for six months
Gennaro Gattuso has undergone successful surgery on a cruciate knee ligament injury.
The midfielder picked up the problem in AC Milan's 1-0 victory over Catania earlier this month.
He was sent for an operation in Antwerp and Milan have now released a statement confirming that everything went as planned.
Gattuso is nevertheless expected to miss the rest of the season as he battles back to fitness.
"AC Milan would like to communicate that Rino Gattuso was operated on today (Monday) by Professor Martens and his team," read the statement.
"The player's right knee ligaments were reconstructed and the surgery was a complete success.
"His recovery period will be around six months."
