French stopper pens short-term contract

Leeds United have bolstered their beleaguered backline with the addition of French defender Mansour Assoumani on a one-month deal. The 25-year-old played the full 90 minutes of Leeds' 3-1 reserve team win over York City on Tuesday and even got his name on the scoresheet. The out-of-contract stopper, who had a trial with Sheffield United last month, has penned a short-term deal and is available to make his debut against high-flyers MK Dons on Saturday. Leeds' defence has come under fire of late after failing to keep a clean sheet in nine games in all competitions, a problem manager Gary McAllister has now tried to rectify.

"He's looked good in training and settled in well and he'll come instantly into the reckoning for our game at MK Dons on Saturday," McAllister told the club's official website. "He's played in France and Germany so he's got some good experience and, as he can play at right back as well as in the middle, he will give us more strength in the back four area. "I watched him last night and I thought he did well. His goal was from a header and he took it well."
