Fulham boss delighted after Dempsey leveller

Manager Roy Hodgson labelled 2008 as one of his 'best years' after Fulham snatched a dramatic 2-2 draw against West London rivals Chelsea at Craven Cottage. The Cottagers head into 2009 ninth in the Premier League, a remarkable feat considering the club were deep in the relegation zone when Hodgson took over as manager exactly 12 months ago. Since Hodgson's appointment not only did Fulham beat the drop, but this season they have beaten Arsenal and taken points off both Liverpool and Chelsea. And, speaking after the dramatic 2-2 draw against Chelsea, Hodgson heaped praise on the character and quality of his players as Fulham extended their unbeaten run to nine games. "It's been one of the best managerial years of my career, if not the best," he told Sky Sports. "I'm immensely satisfied with what we've achieved in 2008.

Quality

"It was a remarkable achievement for the players to show the spirit and the character they showed to come back and keep the unbeaten run going. "Our first-half performance was good and leading 1-0 at half-time we were looking as much under the cosh as I feared we might be. "I don't think we played particularly well at the start of the second half and they continued to play well and deservedly went ahead by two goals to one. "And it's a great tribute to the fighting spirit and the character and quality of the players that we have in the side that they never gave up. "We started to play some better football and it led to a great equaliser by Clint Dempsey who has had a great day for us."
