Genoa have made it clear that they have no intention of selling Diego Milito to Inter Milan.
Jose Mourinho is believed to be tracking the Argentina international with a view to making an approach during the January transfer window.
Genoa president Enrico Preziosi has confirmed that Inter have enquired as to striker's availability, but he has moved to reassure the club's supporters that they are not prepared to let their prized asset join a Serie A rival.
"I can confirm, and I repeat this for the Genoa supporters, that Milito will not be joining Inter because he is not for sale," Preziosi told
Gazzetta dello Sport.
"There has been contact between Marco Branca and our sporting director, but I told him not to open negotiations.
"We hold Milito in high regard and have great affection for him.
"At the moment we do not have an alternative up front - he is the heart and soul of the team.
"He feels good at Genoa and Genoa feel good with him. There is no reason to sell him."
