Becks insists England aspiration was not the only reason for move

AC Milan midfielder David Beckham has stated that securing a place in the England squad was not the only reason why he joined the Rossoneri. Many believed that the former Manchester United man's sole motivation was to maintain his fitness during the Major League Soccer close season, in order to ensure he remains in Fabio Capello's England plans. Beckham, who is expected to return to his club LA Galaxy in March in time for the start of the MLS season, is one cap away from equalling Bobby Moore's record of 108 caps for an England outfield player. Beckham is yet to start a competitive game for England under Capello and the 34-year-old is keen to be in contention for the forthcoming friendly games against Spain and Slovakia, before the World Cup qualifier against Ukraine at Wembley on 1st April. But the former England skipper has admitted that England selection was not the only reason why he moved to Italy. "I didn't join Milan just for that reason, to play in Europe and make myself available for England selection," he told a news conference. "I have never played in Italy and I think it's one of the best leagues in the world, I want to concentrate on working with the team. "I know the kind of team Milan is, the professionalism that exists, and I am willing to work really hard for my place in the squad." Despite the criticism he received when he decided to move to America, Beckham insists that he has enjoyed his time on the other side of the Atlantic. "I always try to have no regrets in life, or in my career," he added. "I made the decision to go to LA two years ago and I've had a good time there. Now I have this chance to play for one of the biggest clubs in the whole world. "I'm enjoying my time with the club and the fans are just great." Meanwhile Milan manager Carlo Ancelotti is undecided on whether to hand Beckham his Serie A debut away at Roma on Sunday. "David is working hard, as are the others," he said. "We are working a lot and he didn't work for two months before arriving with us, but he had all the tests and his conditions are good. "He's missing a little strength but this is normal due to the long pause. He will play in the test against Hamburg. "Should he play with Roma? He's ready to do this, why wouldn't he be?
