Midfielder targets Premier League title

Midfielder Lucas Leiva believes Liverpool are now capable of beating anybody as they target the Premier League title. The Brazilian also admits the Reds' away form will be crucial in the second half of the season. Lucas, in line to replace the injured Xabi Alonso for the trip to Stoke on Saturday, has been part of a squad which has won seven out of their 10 league games away from Anfield. Another win at the Britannia Stadium would see the Reds go six points clear at the summit ahead of Chelsea's clash with Manchester United on Sunday, live on Sky Sports 1 and HD1. "Each point will be really important for us in the race for the title," the Brazilian told Liverpool's official website. "We have confidence and we have quality. We are producing some good performances and we are playing well as a team. We feel we can beat anyone.

Crucial

"Liverpool have waited a long time to win the Premier League title and now we have a chance to win it. "Christmas was a crucial time for us with a lot of games in a row but we got a lot of points which was good. "If we can win on Saturday we can relax and then see what happens in the other game." Lucas also revealed the Reds have been working on tactics in training to combat Rory Delap's long throws. "We know they are a physical team to play against and they have a real threat from long throw-ins, which is always dangerous," he said. "During the training sessions we have been working at defending from long throw-ins so we have to be ready. "When I was back in Brazil I saw players with long throws but they didn't throw it as far as Stoke can."
