Midfielder attracting interest from his homeland

Brazilian outfit Palmeiras have admitted holding an interest in Villarreal midfielder Edmilson. The 32-year-old only joined the Yellow Submarines over the summer, but has struggled to settle at El Madrigal. He has seen first-team opportunities hard to come by and has been strongly linked with a host of clubs during the January transfer window. Portsmouth were believed to be among his many admirers, with Tony Adams keen to fill the void left by Lassana Diarra's big-money move to Real Madrid. However, a potential return to his homeland would appear to be the more feasible option for the former Brazil international. "We are in touch with Villarreal and we are waiting for an answer from them regarding Edmilson." Palmeiras president Gilberto Cipullo told Radio Record. "He is interested as we have shown that we have a serious project."

Contract

The 32-year-old has admitted to being intrigued by the prospect of heading home, but concedes that it is up to the two clubs to strike a deal. "I am happy to know that a giant team such as Palmeiras are interested in me, something like that is always welcome" said Edmilson. "I am still under contract at Villarreal for another year-and-a-half but if a reasonable proposal arrives from Brazil I could go back home. "But, it doesn't only depend on me, first of all both teams have to reach an agreement."
