Interim president hopes for Champions League glory
Vicente Boluda is confident Real Madrid can win the UEFA Champions League this term as he begins his stint as interim president.
After being appointed to take over from Ramon Calderon, the new chief stated that he would be approaching his task as if he were rescuing a company.
Amid the turmoil that the change of leadership has brought, Boluda thinks that he can restore order and that the team can win something on the pitch to lift the fans.
"I have met with the players and they are all phenomenal. I think they are all doing very well and I have faith in them and I believe that we will win something," he told
Marca.
Complicated
"The league is complicated because Barcelona are so strong, but we have an opportunity in the Champions League and I honestly think that we can win the European Cup again."
Sporting director Predrag Mijatovic's role at the club was also highlighted and the signing of two players that have both played in Europe already this term, meaning that only one can be registered in the Champions League.
"There has been an error of some kind made there, because what happened is not normal. If that had happened in one of my companies then I would have given up and gone home," Boluda said.
"But I am not going to remove anyone until I have looked at things case by case. I am going into this as if we were rescuing a company. One must study the situation.
Extension
On Juande Ramos' continuation at the club, Boluda is hopeful that the coach can earn himself an extension by activating a clause in his current deal.
"His contract will renewed automatically if he wins a trophy. So I hope that he will stay," he added.
Boluda also sought to end any speculation that he would look to stay on himself after his current tenure finishes at the end of the football season.
"I will not be presenting myself though and I will go in June," he stated.
