Director of football plays down Norwich reports

Peterborough United director of football Barry Fry has revealed the club have not received an approach for the services of manager Darren Ferguson. Championship outfit Norwich City are the latest club to be linked with the son of Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson, but Fry insists there has been no formal enquiry. He said: "We've not had one approach from any club this season for Darren Ferguson and to my knowledge he hasn't been approached by any other clubs either, so it is pure speculation. "Obviously he has done very well in the two years he has been here, so there is bound to be higher positioned clubs linked with him, but he has done a fantastic job for the club since he was appointed." On Tuesday night Posh host second-placed MK Dons in a game billed as a vital match for the second automatic promotion place, but Fry insists that the game will not decide who finishes in that coveted position come the end of the season.

Promotion

"It's a huge game because if we did win it we would go just one point behind them with a game in hand, so it is a very important game tonight, but I don't think promotion is won in January and anything can happen between now and the end of the season," said Fry. "There are many games to be played and points to be won and lost after tonight's game, but whoever wins tonight will receive a massive boost from it." Despite the Posh netting a 1-0 win against Walsall on Saturday, the fans vented their frustrations at the performance, but Fry insists their reaction will not affect their preparations for the clash with MK Dons. He added: "I know the fans' reactions upset the manager a little, but it upset Darren more than it did me because I'm used to it having been here for 13 years and you always get a few fans that want a moan now and again, even if you have only lost just one in the last 23 games in the league."
