Villa midfielder out to erase memory of Rovers shock

Gareth Barry has vowed to erase the memory of one of the worst nights of his career when Aston Villa travel to Doncaster in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday. Barry was in Villa's side when they suffered a humiliating 3-0 defeat at Rovers' old Belle Vue home in the Carling Cup in November 2005. The England international has not forgotten that unhappy evening and is determined not to suffer a repeat as they travel to the Keepmoat Stadium with a place in the last 16 up for grabs. Barry said: "If you look back over the games I've been involved in, that one at Doncaster is one of the worst and disappointing that I've been involved in. "It was a tough night to take. The League Cup is a competition you try and go far in each year so to lose at that stage so heavily to a lower league team was massively disappointing. "But equally those are the sort of games that you learn from and you can improve by making sure it doesn't happen again. "I also think Doncaster are a different sort of outfit from that night three years ago. They've got a new stadium and new players that play good football."

Pressure

Villa also overcame a potential banana skin in the last round when a late penalty from James Milner earned them a 2-1 success at Gillingham - a game Barry missed while resting a groin injury. He said: "It's going to be a similar game to the Gillingham one in the sense the pressure is going to be all on us to get a result. "Doncaster will be fired up, giving it their all in front of their own fans, and these are certainly the sort of FA Cup games you look forward to. "Gillingham was always going to be a tough game on a difficult pitch and the lads did well to come away with a result without needing the replay." Milner, then on loan from Newcastle, is the only survivor along with Barry from the starting line-up which suffered the defeat at Doncaster in November 2005.
