SPL bottom club whittling down potential replacements
Inverness director of football Graeme Bennett has revealed that the club have received an unprecedented number of applications for their managerial vacancy.
Caley Thistle are currently without a boss following the sacking of Craig Brewster earlier in the week, and the club's hierarchy are expected to appoint their new man sooner rather than later in the hope of kick-starting an ascent from the bottom of the table.
"We're going through the process now and in terms of the vacancies of the last few years this is probably the most applicants we've had. We've had 30 to 40 applications and we're happy with the standard of those we've received," said Bennett in the
Daily Record.
"We're getting there. We've crossed the first big hurdle in terms of whittling down names although not quite to the shortlist.
"That may be done tonight or first thing tomorrow morning. We'd like to have three or four on the final list before undertaking the interview stage."
Viability
So far, the club have been linked with several household names such as Ossie Ardiles, John Robertson, Terry Butcher, Steven Pressley, Charlie Christie, Neale Cooper and Alex Rae.
But, asked if any were truly in the running for the job, Bennett provided a guarded response.
"None of them has ruled themselves out or in," he replied.
"We've had some who have intimated they would like to speak to us and we've asked to speak to people. But there's no point in putting down five or six names and finding four or five of them aren't viable.
"We've been through the application process where all the agents get in touch but we always earmark a couple of people we'd like to speak to ourselves. Whether they would like to speak to us is another matter.
"We'll be doing interviews over the weekend and on Monday with a view to finalising everything as soon as possible next week."
